Ian Shaw, P.Eng.
Senior Engineer, Director
Ian Shaw has a B.Eng. degree in civil engineering from McMaster University (2000), and has been licensed as a Professional Engineer in Ontario since 2005. As a Director since 2007 Mr. Shaw is responsible for overseeing the delivery of a large portion of the company’s geotechnical and construction quality control services. Over that time Mr. Shaw has been the Project Engineer for upwards of 150 geotechnical investigations for projects including residential developments, municipal servicing and roadway construction, high rise structures, institutional developments, sanitary landfills, slope stability assessments, and others. Mr. Shaw also remains active in volunteer work both within and outside the engineering community, including as an active member of the Hamilton-Halton Engineering Week Committee since 2001, participating in student programming with 2nd year civil engineering students at McMaster University, and as a guest speaker at Centennial College in 2011 and Construct Canada in 2012.
Jim Thomson
Field Manager, Director
Jim Thomson has over thirty years of extensive experience in the geotechnical construction quality control field. Mr. Thomson is responsible for the supervision of Soil-Mat field technician staff and review of construction quality control testing reports. As well Mr. Thomson provides senior level site evaluations during construction activities for engineered fill and municipal servicing and roadway projects, including review of fill materials and methods, subgrade evaluations, etc. Mr. Thomson brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to bear in dealing with projects during construction, anticipating issues and offering input on solutions to keep projects moving to a successful completion.
Keith Gleadall
Environmental Manager, Director
Keith Gleadall has over twelve years of experience conducting Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments that support the submission and filing of Records of Site Condition for residential, commercial and industrial lands. Mr. Gleadall has supervised numerous site remediation projects throughout the Golden Horseshoe Area including conventional ‘dig and dump’ projects to more complex in-situ and ex-situ remediation projects for both the soil and ground water mediums. Mr. Gleadall has also supervised numerous hydrogeological investigations and water well studies associated with the development of residential and commercial lands in rural areas. Mr. Gleadall has also supervised numerous pre-demolition designated substance surveys for residential, commercial and industrial buildings.
Stephen R. Sears, B.Eng. Mgmt., P.Eng.

Stephen Sears has a B.Eng. Mgmt. Degree in civil engineering from McMaster University (1995) and has been licensed as a Professional Engineer in Ontario since 1999. As well Mr. Sears has been licensed as a Designated Consulting Engineer since 2006. In addition to acting as the Senior Review Engineer of the firms geotechnical projects, Mr. Sears has been involved in a broad range of geotechnical assignments. These include several major high rise building foundation underpinning projects, municipal servicing projects, industrial developments, slope stability assessments, and field instrumentation (settlement gauges and slope inclinometers) for monitoring of construction projects.
